  • Special Needs
Charlie Bear has seen 3 different specialist, without definitive diagnosis given. It appears to be a degenerative condition in his spine/back.
November 9th, 2012: Charlie Bear went to doggie heaven today. Charlie Bear came to Pacific Coast Dog Rescue from another rescue that had closed down. His buddy, a Chow, got adopted but nobody ever came for Charlie Bear. He started to have problems walking almost 3 years ago and we took him to several different specialist but nobody could help him. Charlie Bear went to physical therapy and had two different wheelchairs. We expressed his bladder several times a day and he spend his days laying on a blanket by his favorite tree at our kennel facility and on several walks a day in his wheelchair and later in his wagon. Charlie Bear loved going to HOME DEPOT where he got lots of attention and enjoyed his trips to the park with our volunteers. Charlie Bear was definitely a ladies man and loved good snacks. Charlie Bear's health deteriorated to the point, where he could not move alone at all, not even reach his water/food bowls unless handed to him. Upon consultation with a neurologist and our regular vet, we decided to let him go peacefully and with dignity. He had some wonderful last days of going to the beach, the park with his girlfriends and our vet came to us today and Charlie Bear went to heaven on his blanket under his favorite tree, in my arms. Special Thanks to our loving staff, especially to our Director of Operations, who cared for Charlie Bear tirelessly. CHARLIE BEAR IS MY FAVOURITE OF ALL DOGS AND HIS COURAGE, STRENGTH AND BEAUTIFUL SMILE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR CHARLIE's ANGELS
Charlie Bear is a HANDSOME and WONDERFUL dog who has lots of love to give! Even though he needs a wheelchair and a wagon to get around, he has a great attitude and loves going to the park and spending time with friends! Sadly, Charlie Bear has a degenerative condition that has rendered his hind quarters paralyzed and will continue to decrease his motor function. Ultimately, he will need to be compassionately euthanized. It is our dream, to see Charlie Bear live out the rest of his life inside a private home! He receives excellent care at our rescue facility but it is not the same as having his own yard and special person to bond with. Charlie Bear is a very special boy and we wishing nothing more for him, than to have his own FOSTER home. BUT HE IS RUNNING OUT OF TIME. EVERY DAY COUNTS! If you want to help Charlie Bear and can open your home to him, PLEASE let us know! Our rescue will cover all of his expenses, including the cost of food and medication. If you can't take Charlie Bear home but would like to help, please make a donation for his care. He receives pain medication and several supplements for his joints. Charlie Bear keeps himself busy with bones and Peanut Butter and Wet Food filled KONGS, so we are in URGENT need of donations. Last but not least, we ask you to share Charlie Bear's story with your friends and family. The more people learn about this special dog, the better his chances of finding a FOSTER home to call his own. Thank you!
